Salty Service Chapter 5

With the decryption key secured from Pilot Lucy, the final assault on the Syndicate’s downtown penthouse vault went smoother than a buttered skillet. While Whizzley provided "tactical support" by accidentally triggering and then somehow short-circuiting the building's alarm system with a stray soda can, and Ye Olde Large Lad held the vault doors open with one hand while eating a handful of salted peanuts with the other, Sergeant Salty handled the heavy lifting.

Salty slotted the glowing decryption key into the Syndicate's supercomputer with the crisp efficiency of a master operative. The massive titanium vault door groaned, hissed, and swung wide open, revealing the Syndicate’s ultimate prize: the stolen royal emeralds, the black-market ledger, and—most importantly—the top-secret, highly classified original recipe for the world's most luxurious triple-decker smoked brisket toastie.

Mission accomplished.
An hour later, the rain was slicking the city streets outside the penthouse suite of the Grand Regency Hotel. Soft, slow jazz hummed through the vintage brass speakers, and warm amber candlelight danced across the velvet furniture.
Salty stood by the floor-to-ceiling glass window overlooking the glowing skyline. He had shed his tactical vest and was back in his sharp, charcoal-grey suit, his tie loosened just enough to give him that dangerously rugged, end-of-the-shift charm. He swirled two ice cubes in a crystal glass of sparkling cider, looking every bit the smooth operator.
The double doors to the balcony swung open, and in stepped the two magnificent blonde bombshells.

If they looked good in red trench dresses on a dusty afternoon, in full evening glamour they were absolutely lethal. The lead blonde wore a floor-length gold sequin gown that caught the candlelight like liquid sunshine, her red lipstick popping against her porcelain skin. Her partner trailed right behind in a deep sapphire silk dress with a thigh-high slit, her platinum hair styled in soft, cascading Hollywood waves.
They crossed the room toward him, their eyes locked on Salty with a hunger that had very little to do with municipal paperwork.

"We saw the news, Salty," the gold-clad beauty purred, her high heels making no sound against the thick Persian rug. "The Syndicate is dismantled. Lucy is safe in the hangar. And the emeralds... well, they're back where they belong."
"Just all in a day's work, ladies," Salty said softly, his voice a low, gravelly hum that resonated in the quiet room. He turned around, resting a hip against the glass, giving them his trademark half-smirk. "Though I have to admit, the Syndicate put up a decent fight. Almost made me break a sweat."

The platinum blonde stepped up to him, reaching out with a slender, manicured hand to smooth down the lapel of his suit jacket. Her fingertips lingered against his chest, sending a surge of heat straight through his crisp white shirt.
"You're a modest man, Sergeant," she whispered, her dark blue eyes shimmering under the dim lights. "Most men would be bragging. But you... you just get the job done, look impossibly handsome doing it, and stand by the window looking like a classic movie poster."

"I have my moments," Salty grunted, his dark eyes softening as he looked down at her. "So... I take it the big bosses are happy with the turnaround time?"
"Happy?" The lead bombshell chuckled, stepping into his space until her perfume—a intoxicating mix of dark cherries, expensive vanilla, and pure temptation—completely wrapped around him. She gently rested both hands on his broad shoulders, her golden curls brushing against his jaw. "Salty, darling, happy doesn't even begin to cover it. They're ecstatic. Which brings us to the most important part of the contract."

"The reward," Salty said, raising a sharp eyebrow.
"The reward," she agreed softly.
She reached behind her back and pulled out a silver platter that had been resting on a nearby side table under a polished dome. With a dramatic, slow flick of her wrist, she lifted the dome.

There, resting on fine bone china, was the ultimate culinary masterpiece: two perfectly toasted, golden-brown brioche sandwiches, overflowing with thick-cut maple bacon, melted white cheddar, truffle mayo, and a side of golden, hand-cut sea salty chips.

Salty’s eyes widened slightly, his pulse giving a sudden, enthusiastic leap. Sweet mother of culinary perfection.
"We promised you extra bacon," the platinum blonde murmured, stepping closer until her body was practically pressed against his side, her warm breath tickling his ear. "And we always deliver on our promises."
"Now," the lead blonde purred, taking a crisp piece of bacon from the plate with her delicate fingers and holding it up to his lips, "the only question left is... how would you like to celebrate?"
Salty looked at the bacon, then up into the gorgeous, expectant eyes of the two women standing mere inches from him. The room was warm, the jazz was smooth, and the tension between them was hot enough to set off the sprinkler system.
Being the absolute gentleman that he was, Salty didn't rush. He slowly took the bite of bacon straight from her fingers, his dark eyes never leaving hers as he chewed with slow, appreciative focus.
"Ladies," Salty murmured, dropping his voice an octave lower into that smooth, irresistible baritone that could melt iron, "a true gentleman never turns down good food... or magnificent company."
He wrapped one thick, steady arm around the waist of the blonde in gold, pulling her comfortably against his hip, while extending his other hand to the platinum beauty, drawing her into the warmth of the candlelight.

"First," Salty purred with a devilish wink, "we eat the chips while they're hot. And then... you two can show me just how grateful the city really is."

Both women gasped with delighted laughter, leaning in simultaneously to press a pair of soft, lipstick-stained kisses against his cheeks, leaving Salty standing in the center of the room like the ultimate victorious hero—full of bacon, surrounded by beauty...
