π Chapter 1 – The Night They All Collided at The Velvet Canary
The Velvet Canary wasn’t the kind of place you’d expect to find Sgt. Salty and his misfits.
It was trendy, polished, dimly lit, and served cocktails with names like Moonlit Lavender Dream and The Existential Espresso.
But there they were — marching in like a military operation gone terribly, beautifully wrong.
Ye Olde Large Lad squeezed through the door sideways because he didn’t “trust the hinge integrity.”
WhizzAir Winky immediately complained the bar lights were “interfering with his drone GPS.”
Funji Squallshy sniffed the air and claimed he could smell “emotional turbulence.”
The Govna entered with a clipboard, insisting he was only there to “inspect nightlife infrastructure.”
And Sarah and Susan Yasmine floated in like runway models who had accidentally joined the wrong battalion.
Sgt. Salty stomped in last, coat flapping behind him like a man entering a Western saloon.
“Right lads and ladies — remember: NO causing a scene,” he declared loudly enough for the entire bar to look up.
The moment he finished saying it, Ye Olde Large Lad broke a chair simply by looking at it too confidently.
Meanwhile, Lucy and Her Friend Were Already There…
Lucy sat in a velvet booth with her best mate, Maya.
It was her first proper night out since her surgery. She felt light, happy, a little nervous, and — for the first time in years — confident.
Her top fit differently now. Not flashy, not over-the-top — just right.
Her friend joked, “I swear you glow now. They should’ve charged you extra for the confidence boost.”
Lucy laughed.
“I can’t believe I’m a 32F. I only asked for a 32D. Imagine going in for a hatchback and coming home with a sports car!”
They clinked glasses — just as the misfits crashed into reality beside them.
The First Collision: Salty Meets Lucy
Sgt. Salty, trying to navigate the chaotic arrival of his misfits, backed straight into Lucy’s booth.
He spun around.
“Ah Jesus, apologies love — didn’t see you there. My crew’s allergic to behaving indoors.”
Lucy smiled politely. “You’re fine — honestly.”
Salty paused.
“Hang on… ye’re glowing like someone who’s after makin’ a big life upgrade.”
Maya snorted. “You’ve no idea.”
Lucy blushed. “I, eh… had surgery recently.”
Salty nodded knowingly.
“Good woman. Takes courage to invest in yourself. I once tried to upgrade WhizzAir Winky — lad fought me like a cornered octopus.”
WhizzAir Winky shot over.
“HEY! That was an experimental self-esteem booster helmet!”
“It was a colander with a battery glued to it,” Salty corrected.
Lucy burst out laughing. It felt good — too good.
The Misfits Join In
Sarah and Susan Yasmine appeared in seconds.
“Oh my God she looks amazing,” Sarah declared without being asked.
“Stunning,” Susan echoed, taking Lucy’s hand like a fortune-teller. “You’re giving empowered energy.”
Funji nodded sagely.
“Her aura is aligned. The chest chakra is literally thriving.”
Lucy blinked. “The what now?”
“Don’t ask,” Maya whispered. “Just smile and nod.”
Even The Govna leaned in with his clipboard.
“I hereby declare: This woman is a national success story and the state should reimburse her for bravery alone. Signed, sealed, and legislated.”
Lucy’s laughter carried across the whole bar.
For once, she wasn’t self-conscious. She was just… seen. Welcomed. Celebrated.
Salty raised a glass.
“To new chapters, improved confidence, and excellent craftsmanship!”
The misfits cheered.
Lucy felt a little emotional — this was supposed to be a quiet drink, but somehow… this was even better.
As the night went on…
Her story unfolded.
Their madness unfolded.
And something strangely perfect happened:
Lucy — normal, grounded, sensible Lucy — fit right in.
Not because she was chaotic…
But because she balanced them.
A calm centre among beautiful madness.
And Sgt. Salty, noticing this, whispered to Ye Olde Large Lad:
“She’s one of us, so she is. Mark my words.”
