Chapter 7 – Skoda: The Snobby Southern Gentleman

The last stop on their marathon of motoring mayhem was the Springfield Skoda showroom. Sleek glass walls, velvet ropes around the cars, and a faint smell of overpriced cologne in the air.

Behind the polished reception desk stood a tall, smug-looking man in a cream suit and cowboy boots, twirling a golden pen like it was Excalibur. He tipped his hat as Salty and Gildig walked in.

“Well, well, well… welcome, gentlemen. Name’s Chester Jebediah, cousin of that fine purveyor of collectibles — the Comic Book Guy. Unlike him, I deal in class. And Skoda.”

Salty raised an eyebrow. “Class? Mate, this is a Skoda, not a Rolls-Royce.”

Chester’s drawl was thicker than molasses. “Sir, I assure you — this here Skoda Octavia is the Bentley of sensible Europeans. Fuel economy, leather seats, boot big enough to hide a family reunion…”

Gildig whispered, “Sounds more like a coffin salesman.”

They were ushered into a gleaming Skoda Superb, Chester dusting off invisible specks before allowing them to sit. “Careful now — these seats are imported straight from the cows of only the finest Czech fields.”

Salty plopped down with a grunt. “Feels like any other seat to me. Bit squeaky too.” Squeak squeak.

Chester’s fake smile cracked. “That’s… character!”

The test drive was smooth — almost too smooth. Boring, predictable, no drama. Salty sighed. “Drives like warm soup. Gildig, I’m falling asleep here.”

When they pulled back in, Chester puffed out his chest. “So, shall I draw up the papers, gentlemen? Financing available for distinguished men of means…”

Salty smirked, stepped out, and patted the bonnet. “Tell you what, Chester. You keep your ‘distinguished’ soup-mobile. I’ll stick with my tank — it’s got more personality.”

As they left, Comic Book Guy waddled in, clutching a comic bag. “Worst… cousin… ever.”
