Manchester fan may save Man Utd Manager

The Manchester United Fan Who Could Accidentally Save the Manager's Job

BigSaltyDog | Football, Fiascos and the Beautiful Game

Stg. Salty was halfway through his morning coffee when Danny Boy arrived at headquarters looking like a man who had just witnessed Manchester United win three matches in a row.

"Salty, have you seen the latest football news?" Danny asked.

"Unless somebody has discovered a way to get twenty-two footballers to chase the same ball without arguing, I'm not interested," Salty replied.

"It's about a Manchester United fan who's threatening to post revealing pictures every day until the manager gets the sack!"

Salty slowly lowered his coffee.

"Good Lord, Danny. Has it really come to this? I thought football supporters expressed their dissatisfaction by booing, throwing their scarves on the ground and shouting at televisions. Whatever happened to tradition?"

According to the story doing the rounds, one particularly determined supporter had come up with an unusual way to put pressure on the club's management.

Salty shook his head.

"When I was in charge of the Tank Division, we had a very simple approach to disappointing performances. You had a meeting, you discussed the problem, and then you blamed the person who had booked the wrong ammunition."

"That's not quite the same thing, Salty," Danny pointed out.

"It's football, Danny. The principles are identical. Somebody loses, somebody gets blamed, and somebody ends up looking for a new job."

Govna Has a Bright Idea

Later that afternoon, Govna arrived carrying a newspaper and wearing the expression of a man who had just discovered a new way to generate revenue.

"I've been thinking," he announced.

Salty immediately looked concerned.

"That's generally where the trouble starts."

"Imagine if every football supporter adopted this approach. Every time their team lost, they could launch a campaign to get the manager sacked. The more outrageous the campaign, the more attention it would receive."

Danny nodded thoughtfully.

"That would mean half the managers in the country would be unemployed by Christmas."

"And the other half would be unemployed by Tuesday," Salty added.

Govna ignored him.

"We could organise a competition. The club that manages to keep its manager for an entire season wins a trophy."

"What would you call it?" Danny asked.

"The Stability Cup," Govna replied proudly.

Salty stared at him.

"Nobody would watch it. Football supporters don't want stability. They want trophies, goals, new signings and someone to blame when it all goes wrong."

The Salty Verdict

By teatime, the three men had reached a conclusion.

Football management was one of the few jobs where thousands of people could demand your dismissal on Saturday and complain about your replacement by Monday.

As for the supporter at the centre of the story, Salty had a message.

"Fair play for finding an unusual way to make your voice heard. But remember, football clubs have survived angry supporters, terrible transfers and enough managerial changes to fill a telephone directory."

He paused before delivering his final observation.

"If Manchester United sack their manager, somebody else gets the job. If they keep him, the arguments continue. Either way, the supporters will still be arguing about the team selection before the kettle has boiled."

Danny raised his mug.

"To football!"

Govna raised his.

"To the Stability Cup!"

Salty sighed.

"To a quiet afternoon without another emergency meeting about Manchester United."

At that precise moment, the telephone rang.

It was McFinleyyy.

"Salty, I've just heard United might be changing their manager!"

Salty put his head in his hands.

"Right. Get the Tank ready. We're going to need a very large cup of tea."

And that, dear readers, is football in 2026. The beautiful game has never been short of drama, but sometimes the supporters are more entertaining than the players.
