Salty Service Chapter 2

The leather seats of the sleek, cherry-red convertible smelled of high-end perfume and dangerous adventure. Sergeant Salty sat in the front passenger side, his broad trench coat draped over the door, his dark eyes squinting against the late-afternoon sun as the city buildings blurred into a high-speed haze.

The blonde at the wheel took a sharp corner with a squeal of tires that would have made a lesser hound drop his bone. Salty didn't even flinch. He just casually adjusted his aviator sunglasses, rested one elbow on the door frame, and let the wind ruffle his fur with the nonchalant cool of a seasoned operative.

"Nice driving, sweetheart," Salty drawled over the roar of the V8 engine. "Though if we hit a speed bump at eighty miles an hour, my liver-treat pouch is going to fly right out the back."

The lead bombshell offered a low, sultry chuckle, her golden waves blowing back in the slipstream. "Keep your seatbelt buckled, Sergeant. The Syndicate isn't going to wait around while we enjoy a scenic drive."

"Right," Salty said, his stomach giving a subtle rumble. "Speaking of waiting, where's that extra bacon sandwich we discussed? A high-stakes operative can't maintain peak tactical awareness on an empty tank."

The second blonde, sitting in the back seat directly behind Salty, leaned forward until her cool chin rested lightly on his broad shoulder. Her breath was warm against his neck, sending a fresh ripple of electricity down his spine. She held out a small, foil-wrapped package with a playful wink.
"Double-smoked bacon, toasted brioche, and just a touch of maple glaze," she purred into his ear. "Think of it as an advance on your commission."

Salty took the sandwich with absolute reverence, opening the foil just enough to catch a whiff of pure culinary perfection. Sweet mother of bacon, he thought, taking a hearty bite that instantly elevated his mood from 'dangerously charming' to 'unstoppable force of nature.'
"You ladies certainly know how to treat a guy," Salty mumbled appreciatively around a mouthful of toasted heaven. "So, what's the game plan? We busting down the front door of the Syndicate's hideout, or are we going in through the skylight like phantom shadows?"

The blonde at the wheel tightened her grip on the leather steering wheel, her dark blue eyes turning deadly serious as she glanced at him. "The plan just changed, Salty. Before we can even think about the Syndicate’s vault, we have an urgent side mission. A rescue operation."

Salty paused mid-chew, wiping a crumb from his mustache. "A rescue? Who's in the soup?"
The woman in the back unfolded a high-resolution satellite map across Salty's lap, pointing a manicured red nail at a densely forested sector just past the ridge lines outside the city limit.

"Our primary bird-in-the-sky, Lucy," she explained, her voice dropping into a tense whisper. "She was running high-altitude recon over the drop zone when the Syndicate tagged her starboard engine with a heat-seeker."
Salty’s brow furrowed beneath his hat. "Lucy? The flygirl?"
"The very same," the driver replied, her eyes scanning the winding coastal road ahead. "She took heavy flak, but she’s a professional. She slammed the emergency seat ejection handle, blew the canopy, and parachuted clear of the fireball just before the jet hit the treeline."
"She made it out?" Salty asked, leaning down over the map.

"Her emergency chute deployed, but she landed deep in contested territory," the back-seat bombshell added, her hand coming to rest tenderly over Salty’s paw, her fingers gently weaving through his. "She’s grounded, surrounded by Syndicate sweep teams, and carrying the decryption key we need for the main vault. If they get to her before we do..."

"...they get the key, and Lucy gets a one-way ticket to a dark basement," Salty finished smoothly, tossing the last corner of his bacon sandwich into his mouth and dusting his hands off. "Not on my watch."
The driver looked over at him, a warm, genuine smile breaking through her tactical composure. "We knew we could count on you, Salty. There’s no one else we’d trust in a hot drop."

"I've got a soft spot for damsels in distress," Salty said, giving her a slow, smoldering wink that made her blush hit a shade darker than her red dress. "Especially airforce aces who know how to make a grand entrance with a parachute. How far to the crash site?"

"Three miles," she replied, pressing her foot down on the accelerator. The convertible surged forward like a missile launched down the highway. "Syndicate patrols are already setting up a perimeter around the woods."

Salty unbuckled his coat and checked his gear, making sure his silver badge gleamed brightly against his dark navy shirt. The air was getting cooler as they hit the mountain roads, but the lingering heat between him and the two bombshells kept the front seat thoroughly toasted.

"All right, ladies," Salty grunted, leaning back and resting a heavy arm along the top of the bench seat, letting his fingers lightly brush against the driver's shoulder. "Here's how we play it. You two drop me off at the treeline. I’ll slip through the brush, track Lucy’s parachute silk using my... well, my elite tactical instincts, and neutralize any Syndicate goons in her way."
"And what about us?" the platinum blonde in the back asked softly, leaning in so close her lips almost grazed his cheek.
"You keep the engine running, hold down the getaway vector, and look gorgeous," Salty purred back, his gravelly voice smooth as velvet. "And maybe start thinking about what we're having for dinner after I bring Lucy back in one piece."
Both women burst into melodic laughter, the tense atmosphere evaporating into pure, high-octane thrill. Salty grinned, his dark nose twitching as the crisp pine air of the mountain forest rolled over the hood of the car.

Downed pilot, emergency parachutes, hostile sweep teams, and two stunning women relying on his every move—it was just another Tuesday for Sergeant Salty.
