October Fest in Germany
At the largest trestle table near the front stage sat the misfits, already four rounds deep into the festival spirit and showing zero signs of slowing down.
Ye Olde Large Lad occupied nearly half the bench on his own, looking like a jolly medieval baron who had somehow stumbled into modern Munich. In each of his colossal hands, he held an extra-large two-liter Maßkrug filled to the brim with golden, frothing beer.
Beside him, McFinleyyy was engaged in an intense, quiet staring contest with the foam of his own glass, muttering mysterious tactical advice to himself before taking a gulp that drained half the vessel in seconds.
Further down the wooden bench, Senior Miguel sat draped in a suspiciously pristine silk sash over a pair of velvet lederhosen, attempting to explain the fine art of classical matador maneuvers to an increasingly bewildered pretzel vendor. Across from him, Whizzley and Winkz were running a high-stakes, highly unstable engineering project: building a towering pyramid out of empty steins directly in front of Senior Miguel’s face. Every time the table shook from Ye Olde Large Lad’s booming laughter, the glass tower swayed violently, prompting Winkz to give a slow, dramatic wink to the surrounding crowd as if every near-disaster was entirely planned.
"If so much as one drop of sloshed foam hits this silk, I am confiscating all of your drinks," announced Sarah, sweeping past the benches with the authority of a royal commander.
She was clad in a striking, forest-green dirndl laced up tight enough to structural integrity standards, her petticoats rustling with every step. Flanking her were Susan and Lucy, equally decked out in elaborate Bavarian attire featuring flared floral skirts, crisp white blouses, and hand-woven flower crowns sitting at defiant angles on their heads. The trio looked like they had stepped straight off a high-end festival poster, completely outclassing the rumpled misfits at the table.
"Looking sharp, ladies!" Ye Olde Large Lad roared, raising both of his giant pints in a toast so fast that a tidal wave of lager splashed onto Whizzley’s arm. "Are you three heading to the spinning wheel, or are you just here to critique our stein-stacking form?"
"We are here to conquer the wheel," Susan declared, adjusting her apron strings with military precision. "And unlike half the amateur tourists getting filmed for viral videos across the internet today, we came fully prepared for the physics of the Teufelsrad."
Lucy stepped forward with a mischievous grin. "That's right.
With a perfectly synchronized flourish, Sarah, Susan, and Lucy swished the hems of their traditional dirndl skirts upward, revealing bright, thick, compression-grade black cycling shorts underneath.
Senior Miguel paused mid-gesture, his eyebrow rising so high it nearly merged with his hairline. "Ah. A masterstroke of defensive engineering. Fully protected against centrifugal force, upward drafts, and opportunistic content creators."
"Pure genius!" Whizzley cheered, accidentally knocking over his stein pyramid in his excitement. "Can I get a pair? These leather shorts are dangerously close to losing their structural integrity."
Winkz let out a sharp whistle, gave another dramatic wink, and pointed toward the center of the tent, where the infamous wooden attraction—the Devil’s Wheel—was currently hurling a group of unsuspecting festival-goers into a perimeter of soft sawdust at forty miles per hour.
"Right then," McFinleyyy grunted, standing up with the wobbly grace of a newborn calf. "The Salty crew doesn't let its front line fight alone. If the ladies are taking the wheel, the misfits are providing heavy infantry support. To victory!"
The entire group paraded toward the wooden arena, a glorious procession of sloshing extra-large pints, rustling silk dresses, and sheer bravado. The wooden wheel sat elevated in the middle of the room, polished to a mirror shine by decades of friction and fallen pride. The carnival announcer, a grizzled Bavarian with a mustache wide enough to sweep a floor, squinted through his microphone at the approaching crew.
Sarah led the charge, striding onto the turntable and taking her position in the exact mathematical center of the disk. Susan and Lucy locked arms with her, forming an impenetrable tripod of Bavarian balance.
Seeing the ladies take their stance, the misfits refused to be left behind. Ye Olde Large Lad practically launched his massive frame onto the outer edge of the wheel, causing the entire platform to groan. McFinleyyy, Senior Miguel, Whizzley, and Winkz scrambled aboard behind him, foolishly trying to maintain their balance while still clutching their extra-large beers in their hands.
"Hold onto your dirndls and your dignity!" the announcer boomed through the loudspeakers, cranking the giant speed wheel.
The disc began to rotate. At first, it moved slowly, the heavy timber grinding on its central axis. Sarah, Susan, and Lucy lowered their center of gravity, their tactical shorts gripping the polished oak like radial sports tires.
The three held the center with effortless grace. The misfits, however, immediately discovered the cruel realities of rotational physics.
As the wheel accelerated, centrifugal force claimed its first victim. Senior Miguel’s smooth demeanor vanished as he began sliding horizontally across the oak floor, his silk sash trailing behind him like a runaway parachute. "Maintain elegance!" he shouted bravely, before sliding completely off the edge and landing softly in a heap of wood shavings, somehow managing to keep his beer perfectly upright the entire time.
Next went Whizzley and Winkz, who had tried to lock hands for stability, only to turn into a two-man human windmill before being launched into the padded side walls with a spectacular crash.
McFinleyyy tried to anchor himself by grabbing Ye Olde Large Lad’s leather boot, but the momentum of the spinning giant was simply too great. Ye Olde Large Lad went down like a majestic Redwood tree, his thunderous, echoing belly-laugh filling the tent as he swept McFinleyyy straight off the platform with him, both of them tumbling into the sawdust in a flurry of foam and pine shavings.
The announcer cranked the speed dial to absolute maximum. The wooden wheel was now a blur. The crowd cheered, cellphones flashed, and gusts of wind swept across the platform. Petticoats flew upward, but Sarah, Susan, and Lucy remained anchored to the exact center of the disc, their tactical cycling shorts utterly thwarting every camera in the building. They didn't move an inch. They were an unshakeable fortress of petticoats, spandex, and absolute composure.
When the turntable finally ground to a halt, the three ladies were the only ones remaining, standing victorious in the middle of the stage while looking down at the scattered pile of misfits surrounding the perimeter.
Sarah brushed a stray flower back into her crown and adjusted her dirndl with cool elegance.
From the sawdust below, Ye Olde Large Lad raised his giant, unbroken pint toward the stage, his face covered in wood shavings. "To the queens of the wheel!" he boomed.
McFinleyyy raised his glass from his back. "And to cycling shorts. The true heroes of Bavaria."
Senior Miguel offered a crisp salute, Whizzley clapped, Winkz delivered one final, legendary wink, and together the crew dusted themselves off to head straight back to the table for another round of extra-large beers.
