๐Ÿ“ฐ๐Ÿถ The BigSaltyDog Top 10: News Stories That Are Making Us Wonder What The Hell Is Going On?

Wednesday, 12 August 2026

Welcome to another edition of BigSaltyDog News, where we take a perfectly respectable look at the day's news and then completely ruin it with inappropriate commentary.

Because frankly, the world is producing enough material without us having to make any of it up. ๐Ÿ˜‚

๐Ÿฅ‡ 1. CAPYBARAS CRASH THE BRAZILIAN LEGISLATURE

Yes, you read that correctly.

Capybaras have apparently been making themselves at home around Brazil's legislature.

The world's most relaxed-looking rodent has now demonstrated something politicians have been trying to achieve for years: turning up somewhere important and looking completely unbothered.

BigSaltyDog verdict:
Forget coalition negotiations. Put the capybaras in charge.

At least they'd probably remain calm during Question Time. ๐Ÿน๐Ÿ›️

๐Ÿฅˆ 2. THE LIZARD WHO WENT ON HOLIDAYS WITHOUT TELLING ANYONE

An Asian water monitor lizard in Tennessee managed to disappear for nearly a month before finally being caught and reunited with its owner.

Imagine explaining that one to the neighbours:

“Have you seen my lizard?”

“No.”

“Okay, cheers.”

Nearly a month later...

“Found him!”

“Where was he?”

“Living his best bloody life.”

The lizard has clearly demonstrated that sometimes you just need to leave the house and ignore everybody's messages. ๐ŸฆŽ๐Ÿ˜‚

๐Ÿฅ‰ 3. WHALE CAPSIZES FISHING BOAT

A humpback whale has made the headlines after surfacing and capsizing a fishing boat off New Hampshire.

Nobody apparently told the whale that boats have right of way.

Or perhaps the whale simply looked at the boat and thought:

“Move.”

The boat failed to move.

Whale: “Fine. I'll move it myself.”

๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿšค๐Ÿ’ฆ

4. “BONELESS” CHICKEN WINGS MAY ACTUALLY CONTAIN… BONES

This one sounds like it was written by a comedian.

The Ohio Supreme Court has dealt with a dispute involving “boneless” chicken wings and the possibility that they can contain bones.

Somewhere, an exhausted lawyer has apparently had to seriously discuss the philosophical question:

“What exactly is a boneless chicken wing?”

BigSaltyDog's legal department has reached a preliminary conclusion:

If it comes from a chicken, don't be surprised if the chicken left a few bits behind.

๐Ÿ”๐Ÿ—⚖️

5. THE WORLD'S OLDEST GORILLA IS 69

Fatou, the world's oldest gorilla living in captivity, has celebrated her 69th birthday at Berlin Zoo.

And honestly, fair play to Fatou.

Sixty-nine years old and still getting birthday coverage while the rest of us struggle to remember why we walked into the kitchen.

BigSaltyDog wishes Fatou a very happy birthday.

And no, we're not making the obvious joke.

We're better than that.

Probably.

๐Ÿฆ๐ŸŽ‚

6. ARGENTINA HAS A VERY STRANGE VIRAL PHENOMENON

A bizarre viral trend in Argentina has seen young people identifying themselves as animals.

Which raises several important questions.

What animal?

Why?

And most importantly:

Who started this?

BigSaltyDog News has conducted extensive scientific research consisting of approximately 14 seconds of thinking.

Our conclusion:

This could become extremely awkward at the next family gathering.

“What's your career plan?”

“I'm a fox.”

“Right. Lovely.”

๐ŸฆŠ๐Ÿ˜‚

7. MEN SHOULD BE CAREFUL AROUND REDBACK SPIDERS

Scientists have been examining the rather extraordinary mating behaviour of male redback spiders.

Apparently, the male performs a self-sacrificial somersault that can result in the female eating him.

That's one hell of a dating strategy.

Most men are worried about saying the wrong thing on a first date.

The redback male is basically turning up saying:

“Hello darling. Fancy dinner? I'm the dinner.”

๐Ÿ•ท️❤️

Nature is absolutely bloody mental.

8. A GIANT STICK INSECT HAS BEEN CALLED A “WALKING SAUSAGE”

Scientists and wildlife experts have been celebrating the extraordinary giant stick insect from Lord Howe Island.

And somebody has given it one of the greatest unofficial descriptions imaginable:

“Walking sausage.”

Honestly, we're struggling to improve upon that.

Imagine seeing one crawling across your garden wall.

“What's that?”

“It's a walking sausage.”

“Is it dangerous?”

“No.”

“Can I eat it?”

“Jesus Christ, no.”

๐ŸŒญ๐Ÿชฒ

9. THE SUN HAS DECIDED TO TURN THE LIGHTS OFF

Today brings a spectacular total solar eclipse, with the Moon passing directly between Earth and the Sun for people in parts of the world including Iceland, Greenland and northern Spain.

For a few minutes, daytime becomes night.

Which means humanity gets to experience what every Irish person experiences when the electricity bill arrives:

“Jesus Christ. Everything's gone dark.”

๐ŸŒž๐ŸŒ‘

And naturally, there are already people on social media spreading ridiculous claims about the eclipse — including the completely false idea that Earth would temporarily lose gravity.

No.

You are not going to suddenly float into the neighbour's garden.

Put the hoover down.

10. TEXAS BEACHES HAVE BEEN INVADED BY… SAUERKRAUT

This might be today's winner.

Strange, stringy material washing up on Texas beaches has been compared to sauerkraut.

Thankfully, it isn't actually sauerkraut.

It's a strange aquatic organism known as a bryozoan.

So if you went down to the beach expecting sand, sunshine and a nice swim, you might instead find what looks like a gigantic pile of fermented cabbage.

Nature has apparently decided:

“Let's make the beach look like someone's dinner.”

๐Ÿฅฌ๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿ˜‚

๐Ÿถ BIGSALTYDOG'S FINAL VERDICT

Today's news proves once again that reality doesn't need satire.

We've got:

๐Ÿน Capybaras invading politics
๐ŸฆŽ A lizard disappearing for a month
๐Ÿ‹ A whale attacking a boat
๐Ÿ— Boneless chicken wings containing bones
๐Ÿฆ A 69-year-old gorilla celebrating another birthday
๐ŸฆŠ People identifying as animals
๐Ÿ•ท️ Spiders practising suicidal dating
๐ŸŒญ A walking sausage
๐ŸŒ‘ The Sun disappearing
๐Ÿฅฌ And beaches full of what looks like sauerkraut

And people still wonder why BigSaltyDog exists.

Honestly, we're only reporting the evidence.

The world is doing the rest.
